New year, same me.

Ok so at some point in the last 3 months, I lost my love for writing. I’m not sure where it went, but I’ve possibly found it again (check back in the next three months). Between writing essay upon essay for uni and writing blog posts as one of the main things I do at work, I kind of lost the motivation to write just for myself. Prior to final year being super intense and juggling that with a part-time job, I’ve always loved to document things that are going on in my life. As some may know, I’ve got a quote-unquote diary, that I’ve kept for the past 6 years. Every year, no matter how low my energy levels were when it came to writing, I always made a point of writing down my new years resolutions and commenting on the ones that I did and did not keep.

I thought that as I wanted to finally post something on here, I would start simple and reflect on how last year went. In other words, I want to be lazy and basically copy and paste what I wrote a few weeks ago but never shared.

Let’s start my new years resolutions of 2018.

“Become more cultured”.

As soon as I wrote this, I more or less forgot about it and what I meant by it. I think I basically wanted to understand what the f*ck was happening with Brexit, alas I’m still not too sure. I really didn’t think I had completed this one, but, towards the end of the year, I got into podcasts. I listen to an eclectic mix and often find myself learning something new. All too frequently I’ll annoy my friends by saying “I was listening to this podcast and do you know…”. So, does that count as being more cultured?

“Travel more”.

Now this one I remembered. In 2018, I wanted to visit 18 new places and I did exactly that. Do you want to know which ones? Course you don’t but I’m going to share anyway. I went to Paris, Ivrea, Rome, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii, Naples, Bologna, Lake Como, Parma, Alba, Santa Margherita Liguria, Aosta, Stockholm, Sheffeild (exotic, I know) and Kos.

“Learn a new language”.

So whilst I was in Italy, I was learning Italian. The first 4 months there, I was learning it but not taking it super seriously. When I got back to Turin after the new year, I really did go all in, and got quite good (if I do say so myself). I had hopes that I’d bring back to the UK this new found motivation to carry on learning, but I didn’t. However, forewarning if any Italian speaking person tries to talk to me when I’m drunk because I will force you to listen to my broken Italian.

“Start saving”.

Opening a savings account was one of the first things I did in 2018. I’ve always been a bit of a worrier when it comes to money so I had hopes that having some savings stashed away would take that pressure off because I knew I didn’t need that stress in my final year. So yeah, I have saved money. I shan’t be going into the details of how much because I’m terribly British that way.

Ok so now for my 2019 resolutions.

“Finish uni with a first”.

I’ve got 5 more months of uni. This is the final stretch and then it’s all over and done with forever, hooray! I told myself that I’d aim for a first but be happy with a 2:1. If I put good vibes out there (& maybe work hard as well) who knows, it might just happen.

“Get a job”.

I’m not fussed about whether I’ll have a “final summer”, I would like to get a job straight outta uni. As of right now, I’m thinking of a career in the social media realm. We’ll see what happens in terms of that in 5 months’ time.

“Move in with Richard”.

This is partly where having some savings and getting a job lined up for after uni comes in handy. Let me tell you, I am completely over the whole long-distance thing! By the time we move in we would’ve been together for almost 4 years, and 3 of those would’ve been long-distance. I’m so excited for this next chapter!

“Invest in yourself 2k19”.

I quite like the idea of putting in the time now so that a future version of me will appreciate what I’m doing for her. Don’t know what I mean? Don’t blame you. Here are some ideas:

I want to have a proper skin routine with all lovely ingredients so that my skin in the future will be kind to me and not be wrinkly (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Invest in your skin 2k19.

I’m also learning how to code because it’s something that really intrigues me and could be good to know. Invest in your knowledge 2k19.

I’ve also got some anti-blue light glasses for the days when I’m endlessly looking at a screen. Invest in your vision 2k19.

New year, same me but, oh yeah, I’ve got brown hair now. We’ll see how I do in terms of keeping this blog up to date, but at least this was something.
